BOC-NAIA seizes P79M ‘shabu jacket’

ELEVEN kilos of illegal drugs worth P79 million inserted in four jackets were intercepted by Airport police and Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) personnel at Pair Cargo Warehouse, Pasay City, said authority.

BOC-NAIA, with operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement of the Philippines (PDEA) arrested the consignee, of Barangay Poblacion, Eastern Samar.

Report said Lawyer Lourdes Mangaoang, Customs Deputy Collector for Passenger Services, said the parcel originated from Pakistan and was declared as “towels” sent by Aimex General Trading from Punjab, Pakistan, and consigned to the suspect.

Mangaoang said that upon X-ray, they discovered several highly unquestionable substances were hidden underneath the lining and later found to be shabu based on the field test conducted by PDEA.

Investigator said the illegal drugs were neatly stitched in the jackets.

Mangaoang said the composite team immediately arrested the suspect who tried to claim the parcel.

After the inventory, the recovered illegal drugs and the suspect were properly turned over to PDEA for in-depth investigation and filing of charges against the suspect. BY JUN I. LEGASPI & ALFRED DALIZON
