Blood mars first day of COC filing in Albay
A REELECTIONIST barangay chairman in Libon, Albay was shot dead hours after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Slain was Alex Repato, of Bgy. San Jose, Libon town.
Repato filed his COC at 11 .am. on Monday. He was shot dead at 5 p.m. of the same day.
According to police, Repato was having a conversation with another person when two armed men on a motorcycle shot him in front of his house.
The gunmen fled after the attack.
The assassination of Repato was the first election-related killing in this year’s BSKE documented by the Philippine National Police.
The slaying of the reelectionist village chief occurred five days after couple Alfredo and Relly Mata of Bgy. Nogpo, also of Libon municipality, were also killed.
Relly was a kagawad in their village.
Authorities are investigating if the killings had something to do with the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections set on October 30.
