Bill seeks creation of renewable energy institute

A House leader filed a measure that seeks to create an institute that will handle the renewable energy resources.

In filing House Bill 872, 1PACMAN Representative Michael “Mikee” Romero, chairman of the House Committee on Poverty Alleviation, underscored the need to improve the renewable energy sector because of its contribution to the daily lives of the Filipinos.

Renewable energy primarily provides energy in four vital important areas: electricity generation; air and water heating and cooling; transportation and rural (off-grid) energy services.

Romero is pushing for the creation of the National Renewable Energy Resources Institute, which main task is to spearhead the implementation and application of policies and mechanism on the development of Renewable Energy Resources in the country.

“The State recognizes the need to promote Renewable Energy resources for the welfare of all Filipinos and the entire country. The state recognizes the importance of Renewable Energy research and development to foster economic progress, and promote its resources and application,” he said.

The Institute shall create sectoral and industry, task force, technical working groups, advisory bodies or committees.

The bill also states that additional private sector representatives , such as from the academe, civil society organizations and federation of private industries directly involved in energy resources concerns, as well as representatives of other National Government Agencies (NGAs).
