
BFP employee jailed for hoax promotion racket
A 29-year-old personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection accused of offering his colleagues easy entry into the BFP officers corps for a fee was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
PNP-CIDG Director Major General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said the accused was placed under arrest during an entrapment operation on Tuesday in front of Star Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The name of the suspect as well as his present assignment were temporarily withheld pending investigation.
Officers from the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit, assisted by the BFP Intelligence and Investigation Division conducted the sting following a complaint from a BFP personnel that the suspect told him he would guarantee him a slot in BFP Officers Corps thru Lateral Entry for P200,000.
Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were the marked money paid to him by the complainant as well as a mobile phone he used in making contact with the latter. The suspect who was wearing his BFP uniform also yielded his BFP identification card. His motorcycle was also impounded by the arresting officers.
The accused was charged with violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and estafa in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Maj. Gen. Caramat called on other probable victims of the accused to come to their headquarters and file formal charges against the latter. Other possible accomplices of the suspect are also still being investigated as of press time.
“Patuloy na nananawagan ang inyong CIDG, na huwag magpadala sa ganitong modus gayun din ang aming babala sa mga gumagawa ng ganitong panglilinglang dahil nakahanda kami na kayo ay tugisin,” the PNP-CIDG director said.
