Bela1Bela2BELA Padilla is in London while attending the zoom presscon of her new movie, ‘Wish You Were the One’. She doesn’t know yet if Viva would send her a plane ticket so she can come home to help promote the movie in person and attend its premiere night on August 21.

Bela herself directed the last two movies she did, “366” with Zanjoe Marudo and “Ang Libro sa Napanood Ko” with a Korean actor. She is now directed by Derrick Cabrido in “Wish You Were the One” and it’s their first time to work with each other. So how is it?

“Actually, nag-enjoy ako,” she says. “Kasi it’s less work for me. It’s not a joke to direct and also act at the same time. So nakapag-rest naman ako. First time ko with our director but he’s very open to suggestions from JC and I so we enjoyed working with him.”

How is it working with JC again? “Even when we’re not working, JC and I always make kumusta to each other. We don’t lose touch. So working with him again, it’s doesn’t feel like we’re starting again from scratch. Now, I feel like we’re both maturing as actors. After working together for six years, we are no longer the same people who worked for the first time in 2017 in ‘100 Tula Para kay Stella’.”

She says they’ve both gained so much experience since then so they now have more to offer in front of the camera.

“Iba na yung mga emosyong dala-dala namin. We’ve gone through various joys and pains and alam namin kung anong mga pinagdaanan namin, so mas marami pa kaming mahuhugot when we act. We’re now so comfortable with each other and when we do a scene, alam na namin agad what will work and what will not work.”

“Wish You Were the One” is something new for both of them. “It’s the first time for us to do romantic comedy kasi all our past movies were dramas na mabibigat. This one is very light. Unique ang story nito kasi everything happens in only 24 hours. Ibang-iba rin ang atake and we enjoyed the change.”

She is also happy for JC now that he has his own family.

“I can see how proud a dad he is while talking about his daughter River when we are on the set. It’s a new adventure for him and he’s really enjoying it. It’s very endearing to see how we’re both evolving as people.”

Her other friends and contemporaries are now moms, like Angelica Panganiban, and getting married like Glaiza de Castro, Maja Salvador and soon, Lovi Poe. How about her? Doesn’t she intend to follow soon with her own British boyfriend?

“Naku, nope. At hindi ako naiinggit sa kanila. Each of us has her own path. Wala pa akong balak mag-asawa o maging ina. I’m still enjoying living my life alone here in London. Ang dami ko pang ibang gustong gawin sa buhay, so that can wait.”
