CABANATUAN CITY – An unidentified armed back-rider was killed when he and his cohort engaged lawmen in a gunfight after evading an anti-criminality checkpoint here on early Tuesday morning.

Checkpoint team leader Major Vinia T. Rocafort said the firefight occurred after the suspects who were on board a motorcycle refused to stop after being flagged down along Barangay Bantug Norte at 12:50 a.m. (February 15) here.

The operatives gave chase, but the back rider suddenly drew a short firearm and fired at the lawmen, who fired back and hit the back rider resulting in his instantaneous death.

Rocafort said his unidentified cohort managed to escape in the north direction.

Recovered from the encounter site were a cal.45 pistol, a cal. 45 empty slugs, and three fired bullets for cal. 9mm.

Probers have requested for members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to process the crime scene.
