Angeli in tempting mood
‘SALAKAB’ is a basket-like entrapping device made of split bamboo, used by fishermen. It is aptly used as the title of an upcoming Vivamax film by cult director Roman Perez, Jr. revolving around a fisherman who takes the woman he loves by force, hoping to capture her heart. It starts Benz Sangalang and Vivamax Queen Angeli Khang.
Their characters, Arthur and Lena grew up together in the province, and were inseparable all the way through high school. Everyone who knows them is rooting for them to eventually end up together. But, Lena goes to Manila to pursue a college education which will all be financed by Arthur.
Arthur is an orphan, and Lena is all he’s got. He works hard for his family, believing that all his sacrifices will pay off in the end, that Lena will return and marry him.
Four years later, Lena comes back. But, not for him. Lena has a boyfriend in Manila, and they are planning to get married, work abroad and build a family there. Upon learning all this, Arthur is consumed with jealousy and fury. By hook or by crook, he will make her his.
See how Arthur fights for Lena’s love on a deserted island as Lena’s boyfriend, Onjie (Jomari Angeles) searches for her. Trapped by Arthur, yet pampered by him at the same time, how would Lena respond to him? Can she manage to leave him or love him?
“Salakab” premieres on Vivamax on November 17, 2023.
Meet the new face of horror
SEXY star Rhen Escano is now poised to scare with her new movie, “Marita” under Viva Films.
Known as one of the greatest actresses in university theater productions, Marita was not pleased when younger and more talented actors started to come in. She considered them her competitors, and true enough, she was displaced from the limelight by some of them.
But Marita refused to be totally forgotten, so she gave one last shocking performance. She committed suicide in front of the audience.
“Marita” also stars Louise Delos Reyes as Sandra, a new professor in the College of Arts, Ashtine Olviga as Cristina, among others.
After so many years, it’s been decided that the university’s official theater group will be revived, and Sandra is assigned to handle it. She calls for auditions, and mostly freshmen and sophomore students heed the call. Socorro Hall, which has a creepy vibe, is re-opened for their use.
Cristina, the lead actress, hears a woman’s voice whenever she rehearses her lines. Props are either getting ruined or disappearing. Freak accidents are making everyone feeling more stressed.
Sandra has heard about the ghost of Marita, but chose to ignore it. This time, she needs to take it seriously as Marita will do everything to get the spotlight back to her. More than the production, lives are at stake.
For “Marita”, the curse must go on! Don’t miss it. Opens in cinemas November 22, 2023.
