SILANG, Cavite – Mayor Kevin Anarna, Vice Mayor Edward Carranza, and Admin Nathaniel “Jung” Anarna Jr. formally led the celebration of “Silang Day” Friday, June 9, 2023, at Patio Medina in the town proper.

In conjunction with the commemoration of Silang Day, the local chief executive declared the school holiday on the said date by signing Executive Order No. AKA-74 Series of 2023, in the entire locality.

According to Anarna, The celebration of Silang Day is to commemorate the historical past and revered local heroes “who fought for the peace of our country.”

“On this day, we gathered as a community to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. In celebrating Araw ng Silang, we show our appreciation for their sacrifice and dedication. It is important to understand and pass on to future generations the importance of our history,” Mayor Anarna said.

“In the years to come, may the spirit of appreciation and recognition of Araw ng Silang remain. Through this, we will continue to be strong and united as a community. Long live our people of Silang!” Anarna added.

On June 9, 1898, Silang gained independence. The Katipunan in Silang was reorganized with Jose Bayacal as the president and Lazaro Quiamzon as the commandant.

Together with the revolutionaries from Dasmariñas and Imus, they launched a nine-day battle against the conquistadores, with the latter surrendering to the valiant heroes of the town.

Included in a week-long celebration are the Baktian sa Silang dance at Patio Medina on June 10, and the opening of Carnival Park in new municipal hall grounds in Barangay Biga 1 on June 11.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony to celebrate the 125th Independence Day, simultaneous with the national celebration and Vespa Motorcycle Show at municipal grounds.

On June 13 and 16, the Silang local government, through the Registry of Deeds Department, will hold a “Land Titling Assistance” at the new municipal hall grounds and a medical and dental mission at Patio Medina covered court in Barangay Poblacion.

A wreath-laying ceremony will also be held at the monument of Gen. Vito Belarmino on his 166th Birth anniversary on June 15.
