Alfred reunites with Katrina
ALFRED Vargas and Katrina Halili were first paired in the Regal movie, “Gigil”, in 2006, where they displayed their yummy buddies in sexy bed scenes. Now, they are together again in GMA-7’s new Afternoon Prime drama series, “Unica Hija”, where they play husband and wife.
“It’s nice to be reunited with Katrina,” says Alfred. “I’ve always enjoyed working with her. I play Christian in the story and Katrina plays my wife, Diane. Anak namin dito si Kate Valdez as Bianca.
She has a boyfriend, Kych Minemoto, pero may gusto rin dito si Therese Malvar at itinulak niya sa bangin si Kate and she dies.”
This is where Alfred’s being a scientist plays a big part in the narrative. “Ang project ko rito is to produce a clone and I experimented on it sa remains ng anak ko. Ayun, naging successful naman ako but my rival, Bernard Palanca as Lucas, wants to steal the baby I cloned so I have to protect her.”
While running away from the pursuing Bernard, he leaves the baby in the forest and the infant is found by Biboy Ramirez who brings it home to his wife, Maricar de Mesa. The baby grows up as Hope and becomes the victim of the very mean Maricar who beats her up. Alfred’s role in “Unica Hija” is billed just as a special participation because he still holds public office and cannot work full time as an actor. After being a congressman, he is now a councilor in the Fifth District of Quezon City.
“Ang ganda ng role ko as a scientist who succeeds in doing human cloning,” he says. “Maikli lang but malaki ang impact sa buong show kasi nga siya ang source ng title character na ‘Unica Hija’ since really very unique si Kate dito as Hope kasi she’s a clone of our daughter, Bianca. I enjoyed taping for ‘Unica Hija’ kasi puro mababait at very professional ang lahat ng kasama ko.”
Alfred celebrated his 43rd birthday on October 24 with his constituents in District 5 at lunchtime then had dinner with his wife Yasmine and their two daughters and only son in the evening. They were able to travel for the first time abroad since the pandemic when they visited the nearby Asean country, Cambodia, recently.
Alfred is really having the best of both worlds as a public servant/ actor and, more than anything else, as a family man.
“I really feel so blessed and so thankful to the Lord for the many graces I receive in my life from Him,” he says. “Dahil nga masyado akong happy, ayan, I gained weight na naman. So I have to go back to the gym and diet. Hindi ko naman hangad na maibalik ‘yung dati kong physique na may abs. Gusto ko lang mapanatiling malusog at malakas ang katawan ko for the sake of my family and the people I serve in District 5.”
