A laudable move

THE Department of Budget Management (DBM) has approved the creation of some 5,000 non-teaching positions in public schools across the nation.

Described by many as laudable and timely, the move reflects President Marcos’ commitment to uphold the overall welfare of mentors and students.

Specifically, the creation of the new non-teaching positions aims to relieve the teachers of the burden of performing administrative functions.

The 5,000 non-teaching positions are for Administrative Officer (AO) II, with Salary Grade (SG) 11.

Due to meager financial resources, the country’s public elementary and secondary schools lack or don’t have non-teaching personnel.

This situation, of course, forces public school teachers, who already “have their plates full,” to perform administrative tasks

By approving the creation of 5,000 non-teaching positions, “we aim to…allow them (teachers) to focus on quality instruction,” said DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

We share the view of Pangandaman that the move will significantly benefit our educators and enhance the country’s educational system.

Our educational system fails to provide quality education to all Filipinos due to various reasons, like lack resources and inadequate facilities.

That’s why we commend the government for its efforts to address the problems confronting the education sector.

Particularly in public educational institutions.
