Digitalization governance

NO less than President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has underscored the importance of speeding up the digitalization of government services in the country.

President Marcos, in his first state-of-the-nation address (SONA) last July, urged the Senate and the House of Representatives to hasten the passage of the proposed “E-Governance Act.”

The proposed piece of legislation is seen to promote the use of the internet, intranet and other information communication technology (ICT) to provide opportunities for the people.

In fact, various quarters, including other public servants, said that “digital governance” would have the potential to enhance bureaucratic efficiency and sound fiscal management.

Secretary Amenah Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management said that to sustain the economic growth, efforts must be made to enhance digital governance.

Pangandaman said the local economy grew by 7.6 percent during the July-September period, faster than the 7.5 percent growth rate in the second quarter of the year.

“We hope to sustain this growth, if not surpass it, and we believe that enhancing our digital governance will play a crucial role in achieving this,” according to the DBM secretary.

Note that the soft-spoken lady Cabinet member’s top priorities as DBM head include the institutionalization of budget reforms and digitalization of public fiscal management.

Thus, as well-meaning Filipinos, we cannot overemphasize the need to support the ongoing digitalization of government services.

It’s a move in the right direction at a time when more and more people are seeking the help of national and local government offices and agencies throughout the country.
