GenTri retarding basin nears completion
GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – The flooding problem of low-lying barangays in this locality will be prevented once the ongoing construction of the Tapia Retarding Basin is finished.
The 41 hectares Tapia Reservoir project covered by Barangay Pasong Camachile 1 and Barangay Tapia with 10 meters depth can store around trillion liters of rainwater during the rainy season.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) administered the project excavating approximately 2 million cubic meters of unearthed soil to reach the depth, based on the project plan.
The retarding basin will contain floodwaters during a storm and reduce the peak volume of flood flow in the low-lying part a priority project of Congressman Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV and Mayor Antonio Ferrer.
“Dito po maiipon ang tubig ulan during storm, para po hindi na ito bigla babagsak sa mababang part ng GenTri at magdudulot ng pagbaha,” Cong. Jon Jon Ferrer said.
“Ang maiipon pong tubig sa reservoir will be discharged once the water level in Ylang Ylang river subsides or at [a] normal rate,” Ferrer added.
DPWH is also constructing another reservoir in Barangay Bacao that will be finished soon.
DPWH recently inaugurated the Buhay na Tubig, Imus, and Anabu Retarding Basins last September 2021 to ease the flooding woes in Bacoor and Imus.
