PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will spend the Holy Week with his family, but will continue to monitor national developments and has directed key agencies to ensure safe and convenient travel for the public during the holiday period.

In a Palace press briefing on Monday, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro bared that Marcos will continue to work in Malacañang until midweek.

“He will spend his time with his family,” Castro said.

She said the Chief Executive will remain engaged with official functions and hold meetings in the Palace until Wednesday, before taking time off to observe the religious holiday.

Asked about the President’s directives in light of the surge in domestic travel, Castro said the Chief Executive has ordered concerned government agencies to ensure “safe and convenient” travel for the public.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), according to Castro, has been conducting field inspections to ensure transport facilities are operating smoothly and safely.

The Bureau of Immigration, for its part, is deploying additional personnel to major airports to manage the expected influx of travelers, she added.

Travelers have started to head to their respective provinces to observe the annual Christian tradition, which Filipinos mark with deep devotion through church services, processions and personal acts of penance. Philippine News Agency
