A TOTAL of 753 erring policemen have been dismissed from the service since Philippine National Police chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil took over as the country’s top cop on April 1, 2024 and ensured strict discipline for members of the organization who went astray.

The dismissal from the police force of the 753 policemen came as the PNP chief stressed his commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within their ranks. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to uphold integrity in law enforcement and reinforce public trust in the government, he said.

Official records showed that from April 1, 2024, to February 12, 2025, a total of 753 PNP personnel were dismissed from service due to various grave offenses.

They include 493 who were dismissed for going on AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave), 38 for illegal drug use, 18 for robbery/extortion, 15 for car theft, and other serious violations such as homicide, murder, rape, and graft/malversation.

Gen. Marbil reiterated the organization’s strict stance on misconduct as he announced the dismissal of the 753 policemen.

“Our mission is to serve and protect the public, not to instill fear or abuse power. Any police officer found guilty of misconduct or illegal activities has no place in the PNP,” he said.

The PNP chief further emphasized the importance of accountability within the force: “The Filipino people deserve a trustworthy and professional police organization. Every action we take in upholding discipline is a step toward earning and maintaining their trust. Those who do not adhere to our core values will be removed from service,” he said.

PNP Public Information Office chief, Colonel Randulf T. Tuaño said the PNP ensures that all disciplinary actions undergo due process, fair investigations, and administrative review.

While individual cases are not publicized in the media, internal monitoring and strict enforcement of policies remain a priority in upholding the credibility of the institution, he explained.

To maintain public trust, the PNP continues implementing ethics training, internal audits, and performance monitoring to ensure that only competent and trustworthy officers serve the Filipino people.

Overall, from January 1, 2022, to February 12, 2025, a total of 2,598 PNP personnel have been dismissed from service.
