LAUREL, Batangas – The provincial government of Cavite on Monday signed a Joint Venture Agreement for the Public and Private Partnership (PPP) of the Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) System Project with Megawide Corporation and Maplecrest Group Inc. held at theTwin Lakes Hotel Ballroom in Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway in this town.
Cavite Gov. Athena Tolentino led the signing for the government sector, in partnership with Chief Business Development officer attorney Jaime Feliciano and CEO Edgar Saavedra of Megawide Construction Corporation; president Erlaster Sotto and chairman Guillermo Choa of Maplecrest Group Inc. in a simple ceremony witnessed by some officials from the provincial government and Imus and General Trias City local government units.
Tolentino said the Bus Transit System, a point-to-point system, that will cover the towns and cities of Kawit, General Trias, Imus, Tanza and Trece Martires, will help reduce traffic in the areas by around 25 percent.
The project, with a proposed budget of P1,870,000,000, will build 37 bus stations and three terminals with 24/7 operations. It has a span of 42 kilometers that will link Cavite to Metro Manila.
“The project was approved on December 26, 2024 and awarded to the proponent by the Awards Committee of the provincial government under the joint venture agreement,” Tolentino said.
Imus City Mayor Alex Advincula, thanked the proponents of the project.
“Thank you for this CBRT Project. This is a great help to our fellow citizens of Cavite, not only for Imus but for the entire province of Cavite.” Advincula told the People’s Journal.
“This is the first in the Philippines, it will ease the fare and on-time arrival and I believe that when there is efficient mass transportation, the ordinary citizen will not buy already buy a car and will save a lot of money.” Advincula added.
General Trias City Mayor Luis Ferrer IV said the project would be of great health to Cavitenos as it will connect Cavite to the big cities, particularly Manila.
Ferrer said majority of workers in Manila are residing in GenTri.
“It will be easier for them to go home. The project was modeled in Singapore, where buses have time elements for arrival and departure, no traffic, direct to PITX,” the GenTri mayor said.
“This is a great help to the mass transportation system in the province, especially to the common workers who work in Manila,” Ferrer said.
Also present in the Joint Venture Agreement signing were Vice Gov. Shernan Jaro, Board member Arnel Cantimbuhan of Imus district, Raymundo Del Rosario of the 7th District, Cavite, Kerby Salazar of GenTri district, Rainier Ambion of the 8th district of Cavite and PPP Cavite chair Renato Abutan.
