12 top drug targets captured

TWELVE top drug targets in Metro Manila were arrested following a series of anti-narcotics operations which led to the confiscation of an estimated P2.2 million worth of prohibited drugs, National Capital Region Police Office director Major General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said yesterday.

Two of the suspects identified as Jevelyn Valdez, 27; and Eric Tiongco, a 46-year-old security guard were arrested in a buy-bust inside a house located at the Dimaano Compound in Barangay Balon-bato, Quezon City on Saturday.

Members of the NCRPO Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Special Operations Group and Regional Intelligence Division under Colonel Jess B. Mendez and the Q. C. Police District Drug Enforcement Unit under Brigadier Gen. Redrico A. Maranan conducted the sting.

Recovered from the suspects were a knot-tied plastic packet containing 100 grams of shabu worth P680,000, the buy-bust money and a digital weighing scale.

Two other suspects identified as Yawe Calma, 20; and Joshua Alcantara, 27, both from Sampaloc, Manila were arrested while conspiring to sell 500 grams of dried marijuana leaves to a poseur from the Manila Police District Station 4 DEU.

MPD director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay said the duo was arrested at the corner of Algeciras Street and Simoun St. in Bgy. 484, Zone 48, Sampaloc on Friday.

MPD operatives also conducted an anti-drug operation on Mabini St. in Bgy. 701, Malate, Manila and arrested Maverick Maliwat,27; and Chris Angelo dela Cruz,24. Seized from them were five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing some 47 grams of shabu valued at P319,600 and the buy-bust money.

The three others identified as Jaymond Sargento,35; Irish Sheryl Capua,31; and Sharen Sargento,34, all residents of Bgy. Holy Spirit, Q.C. were arrested in a sting at no. 23 Don Carlos St. around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

All arrested suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for sale and possession of prohibited drugs.
