THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives recently questioned the authenticity of several Chinese products showcased at four automobile events in Pasay City.

Executive officer Rodolfo Ignacio of NBI’s Intellectual Property Rights Division particularly identified Sankei 555 steering and suspension parts amidst a sea of Chinese brands.

Sankei 555, a known Japan-made brand, has come under scrutiny in the NBI’s ongoing efforts to eliminate counterfeit automotive parts that jeopardize road safety. The crackdown highlighted the NBI’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that all automotive parts available in the market are authentic and safe.

The event was dominated by Chinese brands and products, raising significant concerns about their authenticity. The presence of counterfeit products, potentially made in China, during the event underscored the risks they pose to the safety of Filipino motorists. These counterfeit parts are not just substandard but can lead to severe mechanical failures, causing larger accidents and even resulting in fatalities.

During the event, NBI agents conducted thorough inspections, catching exhibitors and attendees off guard. The agents gathered evidence and questioned individuals associated with the distribution of suspected counterfeit products, emphasizing the urgent need for authenticity and road safety.

Sankei 555, known for its dedication to roadworthiness and safety, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers from substandard and hazardous parts. Atty. Noven Joseph P. Quioc, Counsel of Sankei 555, served the subpoena as he stressed the company’s zero-tolerance policy towards counterfeit parts.

The NBI has assured the public that their investigations will persist, aiming to dismantle networks involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit automotive parts. The actions at the Pasay City event represent a significant step in preserving the integrity of automotive components and ensuring public safety.
