Tanauan hog raisers affected by ASF get sentinel pigs
TANAUAN CITY, Batangas — the Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet) recently provided “sentinel pigs” under the “sentinelling and repopulation program” of the local government to local hog raisers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) to help them recover from their losses.
About 20 piglets which were distributed last week tested negative for ASF.
The last group of farmers to receive “sentinel pigs” came from Barangays Bagbag, Malaking Pulo, Bilog-Bilog, and Cale.
Farmers from Luyos, and Pantay Matanda successfully completed the “40-day sentinel program”, meaning no piglet provided them had ASF.
If the “sentinel pigs” distributed to the latest “batch” successfully complete the prescribed inspection, the local government will immediately carry out the processes to fully declare Tanauan City as ASF-free.
