PDEA nabs 3 drug suspects for transporting marijuana

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency agents and the Cordillera Police Regional Office arrested three people from Teresa, Rizal on Wednesday for transporting nearly P2 million worth of dried marijuana leaves from Sadanga, Mountain Province, PDEA chair Director General Moro Virgilio M. Lazo said.

The suspects were identified as Christian Rico Espirito Santo, 25; Alex Santos, 25; and John Paul De Leon, 24.

Espirito Santo and Santos are from Bgy. San Gabriel in Teresa while De Leon is from Barangay Dalig.

The PDEA and Cordillera policemen were conducting routine inspection of motor vehicles when they chanced upon the trio who were on board a Toyota Vios (NGR 9571).

Recovered from the suspects were 16 marijuana bricks wrapped in plastic and weighing nearly 16.2 kilograms, a plastic bag containing 3.5 grams of Kush’ and a small tube with marijuana residue.

The confiscated drugs were valued at around P1.938 million.

The three are now facing non-bailable charges for possession and transportation of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the official said.

According to Lazo, officers from the PDEA Mountain Province, the PROCOR Regional Intelligence Division, the Regional Intelligence Unit 14, the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office and the Bauko and Sadanga Municipal Police Stations apprehended the three along Sitio Malupa in Barangay Abatan, Bauko, Mountain Province around 8:25 a.m. Wednesday.
