A FORMAL disbarment complaint is now being readied against controversial lawyer Larry Gadon over his alleged statement that the late president Benigno Aquino III died of HIV.

In a statement, people living with HIV patients led by groups End HIV Stigma Coalition and the Red Whistle said Gadon violated Republic Act No. 11166 or the Philippine HIV Policy Act.

The former leader died of renal disease secondary to diabetes, his family said.

The 61-year-old Aquino was laid to rest beside his parents, democracy icons former senator Ninoy Aquino and former president Cory Aquino.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that it is illegal to disclose HIV- or AIDS-related information about another person without consent.

The DOH pointed out that RA 11166 guarantees the confidentiality and privacy of anyone tested or treated for, exposed to, or has HIV- and AIDS-related illnesses.

Gadon came under fire for falsely claiming in a radio show that Aquino died of HIV.

Joining the HIV Stigma Coalition and the Red Whistle in the disbarment case against Gadon are UP OUTLaws, Pinoy Plus Association, Inc., Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation, Youth for Reform Movement.
