AROUND 1,000 revelers, including residents, and local and foreign tourists, flock at the kilometer stretch of Regada Street (P. Burgos Avenue) in Cavite City to get wet when the Regada Water Festival returned on Saturday, June 24, 2023, to mark the celebration of the feast of San Juan Bautista or St. John the Baptist.

According to the local government under Mayor Denver Chua, this is the first time in three years after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in 2020, and canceled all mass gatherings such as fiestas or festivals as part of the health protocol.

The water festival, known in Cavite City as “Regada,” was derived from the Spanish word “regar,” which intends to water or to sprinkle, and was started in 1996 in the locality.
