95 lawmakers pledge to back Go-Sara tandem
SOME 95 lawmakers from different political parties expressed support to Bong Go-Sara tandem in the 2022 polls.
The pact was made at yesterday’s dinner where President Rodrigo Duterte was present to campaign for Bong Go-Sara team.
Senator Go is running for president under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) while Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is vying for vice president under Lakas-CMD.
DIWA Party-list Rep. Michael Aglipay said the meeting was initiated by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Malacanang.
“The agenda of the meeting is to support the Bong Go-Sara tandem. Nagsalita si Pangulong Duterte, endorsing Bong Go-Sara,” Aglipay told House media.
Aglipay added that seven lawmakers from different parties have committed their support to the two candidates.
Among them are Valenzuela City Wes Gatchalian for the National People’s Coalition (NPC); Deputy Speaker Doy Leachon for the PDP-Laban; Samar Rep. Edgar Sarmiento for National Unity Party (NUP); Romblon Rep. Jesus Madrona for the Nacionalista Party (NP) and Negros Occidental Rep. Francisco Benitez for the Visayan Bloc.
“Lahat ng nag attend sa dinner ay for Bong Go-Sara,” Aglipay stressed.
In a related story, the Lakas-CMD is willing to adopt President Duterte as senatorial candidate.
“With President Duterte’s filing of candidacy for senator in the 2022 election, it will be my honor, as Lakas-CMD President, to nominate his name for inclusion in the list of senatorial candidates to be adopted by the party,” Majority Leader Martin Romualdez said.
Romualdez said that the Lakas-CMD is one of the major political parties that helped elect President Duterte in 2016.
The National Executive Committee of Lakas-CMD is currently formalizing the list of 12 senatorial candidates to be supported by the party in 2022 elections, and will make a formal announcement on this the soonest time possible.
