
9-year-old boy drowns in Ecija irrigation canal
SAN JOSE CITY – A nine-year-old boy allegedly drowned after he went swimming in an irrigation canal in this city on Saturday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-San Jose City office got alerted by a distress call that a drowning incident occurred in Bgy. Sto. Tomas at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Responding elements led by the Special Rescue Force of the City Fire Station led by acting Fire Marshal Senior Insp. Julius R. Mangrubang immediately proceeded to the site to verify the incident.
The drowning occurred at an irrigation canal formerly supervised by the defunct National Irrigation Administration-Casecnan Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project before it was transferred to the NIA-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS).
Search and rescue operations were immediately conducted as authorities later found the victim’s lifeless body floating in the canal.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
