A WEEK-LONG anti-criminality operation conducted by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) resulted in the arrest of 87 wanted persons and 35 drug suspects in the province, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

“This is part of our Birada Semana program, which is a week-long conduct of anti-criminality operations to account for most wanted persons, drug targets and loose firearms in the province,” said NOCPPO officer-in-charge Col. Rainerio M. De Chavez.

The official said that from March 4 to 10, his men served 88 warrants of arrest against the same number of lawbreakers, capturing 87 targets in the process.

He said that nine of the 87 were categorized as most wanted persons while the rest are other wanted persons.

De Chavez said that the period also saw the conduct of 30 anti-narcotics operations across the province, which resulted in the arrest of 35 targets and the seizure of nearly 349 grams of shabu worth P2.552 million and 60 grams of dried marijuana leaves valued at P7,200.

He added that they likewise conducted 13 operations against loose firearms last week leading to the arrest of 10 suspects and the recovery of 36 illegal firearms and four explosives.

The NOCPPO also conducted 28 anti-illegal gambling operations, which triggered the arrest of 87 suspects, and the confiscation of P21,492 in cash bets.

“I commend my men who were responsible for our successful anti-criminality operations last week. We are also making it clear to individuals involved in unlawful activity that NOCPPO will not back down and will continue to battle crime in the province,” De Chavez said.

“Oplan: Birada Semana” is an initiative of the Police Regional Office 6 headed by Brig. Gen. Jack L. Wanky to counter all forms of criminality in the entire Western Visayas region, the Journal Group learned.
