4 explosives found in Ilocos Sur, La Union
CAMP GEN. OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union – Four live ordnance were discovered separately on Monday in Burgos, Ilocos Sur and Sto. Tomas, La Union.
Police report reaching the office of P/BGen. John Chua, regional police director, said that a municipal employee of Barangay Diridirig, Burgos, Ilocos Sur discovered two unexploded ordnance (UXO) while gathering firewood at the back of the barangay hall.
Burgos police responded to the Bgy. Diridirig and secured the area while waiting for the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) of Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) for proper disposition and recovery.
In La Union, two pieces of a projectile, a 120mm high explosive without a fuse were also discovered at a road in Bgy. Ambitacay Santo Tomas.
A 74-year-old man found the said explosives and reported it to the authorities.
Sto. Tomas police and EOD K9 personnel based at Tubao, La Union secured and recovered the UXO safely.
The explosives were accidentally discovered by men digging for road drainage and informed the local authorities.
The explosives were turned over to the EOD team for proper disposition.
