THE Manila Police District (MPD) arrested two members of a syndicate called, “hagis-singsing” after victimizing two seamen on T.M. Kalaw Street in Ermita, Manila.

PLtCol. Evangeline Cayaban identified one of the suspects as Reynaldo Aguilar His cohort whose name was not disclosed pending investigation allegedly served as a lookout.

The suspects were arrested based on a complaint that they duped a seaman of his gold necklace.

The suspects’ mode of operation consists of bumping into the victim. The suspects would then trail the victim and demand an apology.

Once the victim had been confirmed as a seaman, the suspects would threaten him and demand for him to show them his seaman’s ring to prove his claim. The suspects will then switch the ring with a fake one.

Cayaban said Aguilar admitted that they sell the rings to their contact in Recto for P7,000.

The one arrested along with Aguilar is said to be a former security guard who gets P500 to P1,000 per successful operation.

Meanwhile, Cayaban called on the public who may have been victimized by Aguilar to go to the police station and file a complaint.

A case of robbery was filed against the suspects before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
