POLICE Regional Office 2 director Brigadier General Christopher C. Birung on Saturday announced 10 members and supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Cagayan Valley following negotiations with police authorities.

The official said among those who surrendered include ‘Ka Rendon,’ as well as militia ng bayan members ‘Ka Thed,’ ‘Ka Mona,’ ‘Ka Jose’ and ‘Ka Darwin.

The others who were described as former rebel supporters were identified only through their aliases ‘Caesar, Bonbon, Edgar, Junjun and Peter.’

Birung said the 10 turned themselves over to officials of the Isabela Police Provincial Office led by Colonel Julio R. Go following a series of negotiations for surrender.

The PRO2 director said the surrender of the 10 came in the wake of their intensified campaign to persuade NPA members and sympathizers in Cagayan Valley to avail themselves of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program or E-CLIP of the government.

The program aims to provide in particular livelihood to the rebels to feed their families and be part of the mainstream of the society.

The PRO2 has been a very active supporter of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in the region.
