GEN. NAKAR, QUEZON–A landslide in a mining site in this coastal town last Wednesday has killed four persons, one of them six-month pregnant, according to the town’s police chief.

Town police commander Capt. Joey Padre said Dionelyn Datario, 36, of Mindoro was 6 months pregnant.

“That’s the reason why there are reports that those who died in the tragic incident were five,” said Padre in a text message.

Also died along with Datario were couple Jonathan and Sherly Delos Angeles, 39 and 37, both of Tanay, Rizal and Datario’ s live-in partner, Ramil Binalao, 49, of Apayao province.

Quezon police director Col. Ledon Monte said the landslide took place at Sitio Angelo, Brgy Umiray before dawn on Wednesday brought about by continuous heavy rains.

He said the mining site is situated along the tri-boundaries of Quezon, Bulacan and Aurora provinces.

With the sudden landslide, Monte said five houses were buried under the fallen debris

Upon learning of the incident, joint personnel of Municipal and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices along with military troopers from the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division based at Tanay, Rizal quickly responded at the mining site to conduct search and rescue operation.

Using a Black Hawk chopper of the Philippine Air Force, the cadavers of the victims were evacuated to the municipal hall of Gen. Nakar.

Padre said the rescuers have already stopped digging the debris.
