Yulo is flag-bearer
PARIS – Caloy Yulo and Aira Villegas were chosen as the Philippine flag bearers in the Olympic closing ceremony on Sunday at the Stade de France.
The announcement was made by the Philippine Olympic Committee yesterday afternoon.
Yulo gets the distinction as the male flag bearer after winning two gymnastics gold medals in the floor exercise and vault events, the first Filipino athlete to win multiple medals in a single Olympic edition.
Villegas, meanwhile, is the female flag bearer following her bronze medal in the women’s 51kg in boxing.
Her fellow boxers, bronze medalist Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, who were the Philippine flag bearers in the opening ceremony at the Seine River, Hergie Bacyadan and Eumir Marcial will also join the closing rites.
Athletics’ Lauren Hoffman, and weightlifters John Ceniza, Elreen Ando and Vanessa Sarno complete the list of Filipino athletes who will take part of the festivities.
Most of the Philippines athletes have already left Paris, while golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina, who on Saturday have completed their fourth round, are not joining the ceremonies.
