War vs drugs
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has seized a total of P44.69-billion worth of illegal drugs in the administration of President Marcos.
Lawmen confiscated 5,813.77 kilograms of shabu, 74.60 kgs of cocaine, 3,907.17 kgs of marijuana, and 96,550 pieces of the party drug ecstasy.
In all, government operatives conducted a total of 71,591 anti-illegal drug operations, arresting 97,445 drug personalities and 6,413 high-value targets (HVTs).
Law enforcement authorities also dismantled one clandestine shabu laboratory and 1,021 drug dens in various parts of the country.
Unlike the bloody anti-drug war of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, respecting human rights in police drug operations is paramount under the Marcos’ administration.
The Hague-based International Criminal Court is now investigating Duterte for his controversial illegal drugs war, which left thousands killed.
Marcos, on the other hand, wants to set up more drug rehabilitation centers across the country, stressing the importance of rehabilitating drug dependents.
“Sa tingin natin ay suportado ng taumbayan ang kampanya ni Pangulong Marcos laban sa mga ipinagbabawal na gamot,” said a village leader.
“Kasi ang mga magulang ay gustong madala sa rehabilitation center ang mga anak nilang lulong sa iligal na droga,” the barangay official added.
Records show that only 6,691 barangays remain drug affected.
