“SUBVERSIVE and erotic.” “Terrific and terrifying.” “Explosive.”

Those were just the descriptions that director Jun Robles Lana’s provocative drama, ‘Your Mother’s Son,’ earned after it premiered worldwide at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023.

The internationally acclaimed filmmaker is back with the gripping narrative. The film stars Kokoy de Santos and Sue Prado as the son and mother, respectively, along with Miggy Jimenez and Elora Españo.

The uncut version of ‘Your Mother’s Son’ is now available on Vivamax Plus pay-per-view.

An anomalous relationship between a hardworking mother and her indolent son suddenly gets disrupted by the arrival of a young man in their household.

Penned by Lana and Elmer Gatchalian, the story follows Sarah (Prado), a middle-aged single mother who juggles the demands of teaching online courses and fulfilling food orders to support her son, Emman (De Santos).

Emman remains jobless and idle. He is often seen with Amy (Españo), their house helper who indulges in drugs and sex.

Emman also harbors a disturbing possessiveness towards his mother. He feels irritated and strangely envious whenever another man shows interest in her.

One day, Sarah brings home one of her students Oliver (Jimenez), to offer him refuge from his abusive father. The situation threatens Emman and puts a strain in his relationship with his mother.

Emman goes to great lengths to make Oliver know he is not welcome to the house.

What ensues is a scandalous tale veiled in layers of lies, turmoil and sex. As Sarah and Emman’s lives intertwine with Oliver’s, events take a dark twist when the most unexpected and tumultuous secrets unfold, revealing that some relationships may not be as they appear.

“Your Mother’s Son is a chamber drama,” disclosed Lana. “I wanted to tell their story as a reflection of the current state of Philippine society, plagued by metastasizing corruption that has blurred the lines between right and wrong, humans and monsters.”

Lana is behind award-winning films such as ‘Kalel, 15’ and ‘Die Beautiful.’

Your Mother’s Son was part of the Centrepiece section when it had its worldwide premiere at the TIFF. That marked Lana’s second appearance in the film festival. He first graced TIFF for the independent film, ‘Bwakaw’ in 2012.

‘Your Mother’s Son’ also held screenings at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia’ and the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan.

Jackie Gonzaga reposted the photo of David Chua showing both of them sharing a sweet moment, snapped during a break from their taping for their Net25 sitcom, ‘Good Will.’

And just like ants taking to honey, Jackie’s legion of followers expressed their kilig feels and wasted no time in shipping the new couple-in-the-making. Or are they really?

David and Jackie first met on the set of ‘Good Will,’ when she joined the cast during the show’s fourth season during the last quarter of 2023.

David’s close confidant and showbiz friend disclosed his friend’s initial reaction was upon first meeting Jackie.

David said, “Bibo siya, e.”

Not surprisingly, it was her spunk and quick-wittedness that also got the attention of Vice Ganda, who gave her the rightful “promotion” from Showtime back-up dancer to co-host.

David added, “Kung kaya mong makipag-sagutan sa isang Vice Ganda, then you must really be smart and gutsy. And that’s what Jackie is! Mabilis kausap and hindi siya plastic.”

“Of course, she’s very stunning. And because she’s a dancer, she’s also very much into fitness, just like me.”

Despite being teased by their respective fans, David made it clear that they’re not exactly dating at the moment.

“I think most people know that she’s recovering from a breakup – an eight-year-relationship at that – and I just want to help her move on,” he clarified.

Being a true Manila boy, David also plans to show her around the city, exploring all the quaint but historic restaurants, scenic destinations and historic sites.

“She’s easy to hang out with, walang arte sa katawan and being the people person that she is, she’s always willing to meet new people and discover new things,” David said of Jackie.

“With a mindset like that, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before she fully recovers from her heartbreak.”

“Basta, no matter what happens, I’m always there for Jackie Gurl. I’ll always be by her side,” David assured.
