TRABAHO Partylist has condemned the reported surge in killings of Philippine trade union leaders, as highlighted in a recent report by the Federation of Free Workers and the Danish Trade Union Development Agency.

The partylist, which advocates for the rights and welfare of Filipino workers, emphasized the urgent need for stronger protection mechanisms for labor groups and called on the government to continue to take decisive action against these attacks.

Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu, spokesperson for TRABAHO Partylist, reaffirmed their commitment to championing policies that ensure the safety and dignity of workers, particularly those advocating for labor rights. He underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all Filipinos, especially the working class, can freely organize without fear of violence or repression.

In response to the alarming trend of violence against labor leaders, TRABAHO also reiterated its platform of working closely with both government agencies and private sector partners to improve labor conditions. The labor group seeks to strengthen labor policies through legal reforms, increased funding for employment-related government agencies, and the implementation of livelihood and skills training programs.

Atty. Espiritu also emphasized the group’s key advocacies on uplifting the working life of Filipinos and ensuring true equality in the workplace. He added they aim to eliminate exploitative labor practices, promote living wages, and expand financial assistance for small businesses and trade. TRABAHO also consistently pushes for inclusive policies that support marginalized workers, including women, persons with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, he noted.

As reports of violence against labor organizers continue to surface, TRABAHO has urged the government to take concrete steps in addressing these attacks, ensuring accountability, and providing comprehensive protection for trade unionists.

It also urge the public to join the group in reaffirming the Filipino dedication to fostering a society where labor rights are respected, and workers can engage in advocacy without fear for their lives.
