As the nation observes the solemnity of Holy Week, Trabaho Partylist has expressed its unwavering support for Filipino workers who continue to fulfill their duties during this period. The partylist underscores the importance of upholding labor rights, particularly the entitlement to appropriate compensation for work rendered on legal holidays.

“Recognizing the sacrifices of our workers during significant holidays is paramount,” stated Trabaho spokesperson Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu. “They deserve not only our gratitude but also the rightful benefits as stipulated by law.”

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), employees who work on regular holidays such as Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are entitled to double their regular daily wage for the first eight hours of work. For overtime work beyond eight hours, an additional 30% of their hourly rate is mandated. If these holidays coincide with an employee’s rest day, they should receive 230% of their daily wage for the first eight hours, plus the 30% overtime premium for any additional hours worked.

On Black Saturday, designated as a special non-working day, employees who report to work are entitled to an additional 30% of their basic wage for the first eight hours. If this day also falls on their rest day, the premium increases to 50%.

Trabaho has consistently championed the rights and welfare of Filipino workers. Beyond advocating for proper holiday compensation, the partylist has pushed for non-wage benefits such as allowances and subsidies to alleviate the impact of inflation on workers.

“Our commitment is to ensure that every worker receives fair treatment and the benefits they rightfully deserve,” Atty. Espiritu emphasized. “Especially during times when their dedication keeps essential services running for the rest of the nation.”

As Holy Week progresses, Trabaho urges employers to adhere strictly to labor laws concerning holiday pay and benefits. The partylist also calls on government agencies to monitor compliance and address any violations promptly.
