Tolentino-led PH ROTC Games inks deal to launch 2024 edition
THE second edition of the Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games (PRG) founded by Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino officially commenced Monday with the memorandum of agreement signing at the Tejeros Hall in Camp Aguinaldo.
Senator Tolentino expressed his optimism that the PRG in 50 years time will be “a significant moment in the history of Armed Forces and ROTC.”
He likewise said that PRG 2024 will be an avenue to develop the Filipino youth as they contribute to the nation’s history.
“Nababanaag ko na po na ito ay magiging tagumpay sa paghubog ng kabataang Pilipinong disiplinado, mapagmahal sa bayan,” Sen. Tol remarked.
The said event was joined by Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Romeo Brawner Jr., Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Dr. Prospero de Vera, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary Rolando C. Puno, and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Executive Director Paulo Francisco Tatad.
AFP Chief Brawner said, “These games provide valuable lessons that will shape them into future leaders.”
This was echoed by CHED Chairman de Vera saying that ROTC Games is “a showcase of not only physical prowess but the values of the defenders of our nation.”
Meanwhile, DND Secretary Teodoro underscored how PRG is an effective tool “that may interest the youth to an adventure that can help their country.”
The inaugural edition of PRG in 2023 was participated by 3,090 ROTC-cadet athletes nationwide.
