Timely order
THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all local government officials to ensure the closure of all POGO operations in the country.
This, the local government executives will do by reporting to the DILG any businesses still operating under the prohibited Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations.
The directive is contained in Memorandum-Circular No. 2025-001 issued by DILG Secretary Juanito “Jonvic” Remulla of Cavite.
Local Government Units (LGUs) ought to comply with President Marcos’ directive to eliminate all POGO operations in the country, according to the DILG chief.
A local government executive is mandated to submit a final compliance report by January 10, through the DILG regional offices.
“Kailangan talaga ang tulong ng mga lokal na opisyal dahil sila ang nakakaalam ng mga nangyayari sa barangay,” a well-meaning village official said.
“Alam naman natin kung saan-saan na nago-operate ang mga POG0 mula noong ipagbawal ito ni Pangulong Marcos, the barangay official added.
At the same time, Remulla asked LGUs to work in unison with other concerned officials in meeting the employment needs of displaced POGO workers.
The DILG deserves the support of the public as it ensures the closure of all POGO operations in various parts of the country.
However, we cannot overemphasize the importance of providing quality jobs to all workers adversely affected by the closure of said POGOs.
