A total of 48 domestic flights were cancelled and 9,000 passengers were left stranded by a power interruption that hit the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA T3)yesterday.

In a press conference, Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, NAIA Gen. Manager Cesar Chiong and other officials sought to explain what happened.

GM Chiong said the power interruption happened around 1:05 a.m.

Immediately with the efforts of the NAIA Engineering team and Meralco personnel were able to restore the regular power at exactly 8:46 am.
Bautista said MIAA and Airline management quickly assisted affected passengers.

“Binigyan po sila ng mga kailangan nila kaya ng tubig,” said Chiong.

The airline management Cebu Pacific, represented by Zander Lao, said affected passengers may rebook their flight and would inquire with the management for possible other options in the future flights.

Bautista said the DOTr and MIAA asked the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to investigate and determine the real cause of the incident.

“Ang NICA ang tamang agency para mag inbestiga sa isyung ito kung merong mang sabotage o anupaman,” said Bautista.

Bautista suggested the immediate total electrical audit of NAIA T3 to check all the equipment and facilities inside and outside NAIA T3.
