NEGROS Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves still faces at least seven other illegal possession of firearms and explosives cases, according to Justice Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Atty. Mico Clavano.

Clavano clarified this over the weekend in response to the dismissal of one similar case against Teves by the Department of Justice (DOJ). As of this writing, Teves has not returned from abroad.

Clavano downplayed the media attention surrounding the dismissed case, stating that “That’s just one.”

He emphasized that the DOJ dismisses weak cases, particularly those lacking a conspiracy to possess firearms.

The complaint dismissed by the DOJ was filed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and is one of eight against Teves.

In its resolution, the DOJ stated that the complaint was not a “proper subject for inquest” since Teves was not arrested during the search operation.

The resolution also cited insufficient evidence to proceed with a regular preliminary investigation against Teves.

Authorities raided several residences owned by Teves in Negros Oriental starting on March 10, confiscating various firearms and explosives.
