Taiwanese wanted for ‘large-scale’ fraud falls
THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of a Taiwanese man wanted by authorities in Taipei for “large-scale” fraud.
In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as 40-year-old Yin Chih Chou, who was arrested on May 11 inside a condominium unit along Adriatico St., Ermita, Manila.
Tansingco said operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) who arrested Chou were armed with a mission order which he had issued upon request of the Taiwanese authorities.
“He will be deported as soon as our board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. He will then be included in our blacklist and perpetually banned from re-entering the Philippines,” the BI chief said.
Tansingco added that Chou will also be deported for overstaying and for being an undocumented alien as his passport was already revoked by the Taiwanese government. He reportedly last arrived here on July 19, 2018 and never departed since then.
Citing information obtained from the TECO, BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy said an arrest warrant for fraud was issued against Chou by the Taiwan Hsinchu district prosecutor’s office two months before he fled to the Philippines.
Chou allegedly enticed his victims to give him money which he would purportedly use to buy fine goods and luxury items at bargain prices.
The victims reportedly received the victims’ money via dummy accounts opened by the suspect, which he then pocketed and absconded with.
Chou is presently detained at the BI’s holding facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
