SY 2021-22
DESPITE the government’s ongoing nationwide vaccination program against COVID-19, the proposed opening of School Year (SY) 2021-22 on August 23 is still up in the air.
If the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases approves the proposal, it will shorten the break of students to six weeks from the usual two months.
As part of the August 23 opening of the new SY, the Department of Education (DepEd) is preparing a ” scenario,” where physical classes will complement remote learning.
Of course, the “ideal scenario” is seen to happen in low risk areas in various parts of the country.
But Sen. Christopher T. Go said the health and safety of students, teachers and non-teaching personnel must be taken into consideration when to resume face-to-face classes.
Simply known to many as “Bong,” Senator Go, a close associate of President Duterte, is against “face-to-face” classes until “herd immunity” is achieved through vaccination.
“Ako naman po, ‘di pa rin ako sasang-ayon sa face-to-face classes hangga’t ‘di nababakunahan ang majority ng population,” according to the neophyte but workaholic lawmaker.
Senator Go also explained: “Alam naman po natin na may mga bagong strain ng virus…So unahin natin ang kalusugan ng bawat bata, bawat Pilipino before anything else.”
The government should put in place programs and initiate activities aimed at educating our youngsters without compromising their health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dapat lang!
