TALISAY City-MJAS Zenith made history by completing a rare 10-game sweep of the double-round eliminations in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Vis-Min Super Cup basketball tournament at the Alcantara Sports Center in Cebu.

Talisay finished strongly as it started in posting a lopsided 99-62 win over Lapu-Lapu City-ARQ Builders.

More importantly, the sweep enabled Talisay to clinch the first finals berth while leaving the five other teams battling for the second finals berth in a step-ladder style format.

Patrick Cabahug was the star of the night for Talisay as he finished with 22 points, including five three-point shots.

Kevin Villafranca added 12 points, five rebounds and two assists, Darrell Menina contributed 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Allan Santos had 10 points and nine rebounds in the Aquastars’ dominant showing.

“We’re very happy with the outcome of our games. Malaking bagay talaga sa amin na makuha yung sweep para makapag-pahinga kami,” said Talisay coach head coach Aldrin Morante.

“After 10 games in the eliminations, the boys deserve this rest before returning to the best-of-three finals,” added Morante.

Based on the format, the team which completes a double-round sweep will advance to the best-of-three finals outright.

The No. 2 team earns a bye with a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoff .

The No.3 up to No. 6 team will collide in a pair of knockout games, with the winners battling again for the right to meet the No. 2 team.

Ferdinand Lusdoc carried the fight for Lapu-Lapu with 12 points followed by Jojo Tangkay and Chris Regero with 10 points apiece.

A big letdown was Rendell Senining, who returned to Lapu-Lapu’s line-up after his suspenion was lifted by the Vis-Min Cup organizers.

Senining struggled in his return, making only 1-of-9 from the field for four points with one rebound, four assists, and one steal.

Senining became infamously known for deliberately switching shooting hands during a free throw sequence in the clash between the Heroes and the Siquijor Mystics.

The league initially slapped Senining with a ban that was supposed to last for the entire season and a P30,000 fine.

The loss dropped the Heroes to 4-5 with one more game to play against Tubigon-Bohol Mariners
