
St. Benilde in dominant win vs Lyceum
FOUR-PEAT seeking College of Saint Benilde secured a dominant 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 win over Lyceum of the Philippines University to stay within reach of the NCAA women’s volleyball leaders yesterday at the JRU Gym.
Clydel Catarig led the way for the Lady Blazers with 19 points on 14 attacks, four blocks and a service ace that went along with six digs while Zam Nolasco added 13 points.
It was Benilde’s second straight victory to improve to 5-1 overall and stay within distance of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, which at 6-0 is enjoying its finest start since 2012, and last year’s runner-up Letran, which sits in second at 5-0.
Mapua seized solo fourth with a 4-2 record after sweeping Jose Rizal University at its home floor, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15.
Raissa Ricablanca paced the Lady Cardinals with 19 points on 18 kills and an ace.
The Lady Pirates and the Lady Bombers fell at 1-5. The two teams are tied with idle Emilio Aguinaldo College in seventh place.
In the men’s division, Arjay Ramos and Barbie San Andres had 23 points apiece as Mapua continued its winning ways, improving to 6-0 beating JRU, 25-22, 25-15, 24-26, 25-21.
Benilde hacked out a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 victory over LPU to also extend its perfect run to six matches.
