
Septuagenarian arrested for trying to sneak shabu into jail using baby diaper
CABANATUAN CITY – Alert prison guards at the Nueva Ecija Provincial Jail (NEPJ) in this city on Sunday morning thwarted an attempt by a 70-year-old widower to sneak shabu into the facility using his grandson’s worn diaper.
Nueva Ecija top cop Col. Richard V. Caballero said the suspect is a resident of Purok 2, Bgy. San Juan ACCFA, this city.
Caballero said the contraband was intercepted during a routine check conducted by prison guard Rene Diaz, 48, of Bgy. Marcos, Talavera, and security aide Cornelio Soriano, 59, of Bgy. Caalibangbangan, this city at the entrance gate of the jail facility on Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Caalibangbangan at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.
The septuagenarian was arrested after bringing along with him his one-year-old grandson in visiting his son, who is detained at the NEPJ for illegal drug charges.
During the routine inspection, jail guards found a plastic sachet containing shabu weighing one gram worth P6,800 hidden inside the worn diaper of the suspect’s grandson.
Caballero said the arrested suspect and the seized pieces of evidence were turned over by the NEPJ guards to the Cabanatuan City police for proper disposition.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied for inquest-filing against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
