Senior Citizen party-list backs President Marcos’ approval of Meralco franchise renewal
THE Senior Citizen Party-list has expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s decision to renew the franchise of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the country’s largest electricity distribution utility.
The party-list emphasized that this move recognizes the indispensable role of reliable and affordable electricity in the daily lives of the elderly population.
For many senior citizens, consistent access to power is vital in operating medical care equipment, storing food, and maintaining cooling systems and other daily necessities.
“Meralco has steadily proven that its continued investments in facilities and infrastructure have led to improved service quality, particularly in reducing the frequency and duration of power interruptions and ensuring swift restoration,” the party-list said.
The group also commended Meralco’s dedication to the welfare of the elderly through the continued implementation of its senior citizen discount program, which grants a five percent subsidy to qualified beneficiaries.
This initiative has provided meaningful financial relief and enhanced the well-being of senior citizens in their daily lives.
The Senior Citizen Party-list said it is looking forward to seeing more senior-friendly programs from Meralco in the wake of its franchise renewal, especially those aimed at further uplifting the lives of older Filipinos across the country.
