SCHOOLS BRACE FOR OVER 17M STUDENTS

THE Department of Education (DEPED) has recorded over 17 million learners for school year (SY) 2023-2024 a week before the school opening on August 29.

As of August 22, based on the latest data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count for SY 2023-2024. the total number of registered students for the upcoming academic year has reached 17, 389,572.

The data also showed , Region IV-A has the highest number of registrations with 2,915,796. Followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2, 263,482 enrollees and Region III with 1,933,651 respectively.

The DEPED has set a target of 28 million enrollees from kindergarten to senior high school this school year.

According to DEPED, enrollment will continue until Aug. 26.

Classes in all public schools will start on Aug. 29. Meanwhile, private schools may choose to start classes “not later than the last day of August,” pursuant to Republic Act 11480, the DepEd added.

The DEPEDhas also reactivated its Oplan Balik Eskwela- Public Assistance Command Center (OBE-PACC) to cater to stakeholders’ querries and concerns related to enrollment and other school opening matter.

The PACC, started its operations on August 15 which was set up at the DEPEDCentral Office in Pasig City. The national launch of the 2023 Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) also started on the same date.

The OBE-PACC will accommodate queries of parents, learners, and other stakeholders received through hotlines, emails, SMS, and social media relevant to enrollment and the opening of classes.
