School vacation
THE annual school vacation in the Philippines started April 25, with the end of School Year (SY) 2024-2025.
The start of the summer vacation comes at a time when thermometers continue to go “crazy” in some places due to soaring heat index.
In fact, school and local government authorities were even forced to suspend face-to-face (F2F) classes when the weather bureau warned of extreme heat in certain areas.
Particularly in public schools.
As outlined in DepEd Order No. 12, Series of 2025, the June 16, 2025 opening SY 2025-26 “marks a return to the pre-pandemic school calendar.”
The new school year ends on March 31, 2026.
“The return to the old school calendar benefits not only the students, pupils, teachers and school authorities but also the parents,” according to Garry L. Lopez, a father of two pupils at the Pindangan East Elementary School in Alcala, Pangasinan.
“Tama lang ang desisyon ni Education Secretary Sonny Angara na ibalik sa Hunyo ang pagbubukas ng mga klase kasi sobra-sobra ang init ng panahon sa mga buwan ng Abril at Mayo,” Lopez added.
Certainly, President Marcos and Secretary Angara deserve the support of the people as they try to improve the quality of Philippine education.
We also commend them for ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our millions of learners, teachers and school personnel.
