Sara salutes Manila volunteer firefighters
For malasakit
LAKAS-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Saturday afternoon hailed the sacrifices of Manila Volunteer Firefighters for the Filipinos and their love for the country.
Speaking during a “meet-and-greet” with the volunteer firefighters in Barangay 20, Isla Puting Bato Road, Tondo, Manila on Saturday, Duterte extended her gratitude for the warm welcome of loud truck sirens and “palm-on-chest” gestures.
“Sobrang na a-appreciate ko ang ginagawa ninyo, and thank you for your service sa ating mga kababayan,” Duterte said as she delivered Uniteam’s platform and message of unity and peace.
She added: “Nagpapasalamat po kami sa inyong mga volunteers sa tulong at suporta sa ating gobyerno at pagmamahal ninyo sa ating bayan.”
Ramon Morales, Fire chief and Ronda 117 founder, reiterated how important it is to do volunteer work in the Philippines especially in the medical sector.
“Talagang kailangan natin ng volunteers dahil dumadami ang populasyon at imprastraktura, pero kulang ang ating medical assistants,” Morales said, adding that being a volunteer symbolizes a Filipino’s “contribution and compassion” for the country.
Now composed of more than 300 members, the Manila Firefighter Volunteers is the first firefighter volunteers group in the Philippines.
The direct service to the people, he said, was inspired from President Rodrigo Roa Duterte that Mayor Sara can continue should she win as vice president.
“Kaya po nandito kami at handang tumulong, na pati buhay namin ay handa naming ibuwis para lang sa ating bayan,” Morales said.
