SAMAR Gov. Reynolds Michael Tan is guaranteeing an 100,000-margin victory for the UniTeam tandem of presidential candidate former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential bet Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in his province come May 9.

In a chance interview at the Manila Hotel tent in Ermita, Manila on Wednesday, Tan explained just how expansive the Samarnons’ support for the UniTeam duo is.

“I have expressed that Team Aksyon Padayon, which is the local group of Samar would be supporting both BBM and Sara tandem. Samar has 951 barangays and 80 percent of all barangay chairmen are with us and all of us are expressing support for BBM and Sara,” Tan said.

As for the mayors in the province, the governor said that 19 out of the 21 incumbent mayors are backing Marcos and Duterte.

“Almost all of the incumbent mayors with our party will also be supporting Mayor Sara Duterte. So we have 21 incumbent mayors, 19 of them will be supporting BBM-Sara tandem. We have conducted several local surveys and we have seen that more than 70 percent of Samarnons prefer BBM-Sara tandem over doon sa mga presidential and vice presidential aspirants,” Tan said.

“We are expecting or we are aspiring na makalamang talaga yung BBM-Sara tandem ng more than 100,000 votes sa Samar,” he added. Samar has over 600,000 registered voters.

Asked to explain what he thinks is the reason for the province’s groundswell for the UniTeam, he said it has a lot to do about the people being fed up already with “noisy politicking”.

He also explained the Samarnons regional affinity for Marcos and Duterte.

“Pagod na rin ‘yung mga taga-Samar sa maingay na pulitika, gusto namin ng pagkakaisa ng mga taga-Samar and we have to consider that BBM, his mother is from Leyte. Leyte and Samar is connected. Parang isa din yan eh…parang talaga Samar na rin si BBM while Mayor Sara naman is from Mindanao, Cebuano-speaking. Bisaya din yun mga taga-Samar so ganun din po yung nararaman, not to mention na President Duterte is a very popular president, and kami din, all-out support kami kay President since day one of his presidency. So I think it can be translated…’yun ‘yung reason bakit malakas talaga,” Tan said.

We are confident na lagpas 100,000, through our support and all of the support of the people who are present today, I think achievable yung 100,000,” Tan said, referring to the event at the Manila Hotel that he and his province-mates attended.

The event was graced by Mayor Duterte.
