ROTC Games: 11 golds in athletics, swimming at stake

INDANG, Cavite — While all sporting eyes are focused on the Paris Olympics, the country’s top cadet-athletes begin their hunt for gold medals in the 2nd Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Luzon Games 2024 at the Cavite State University Track Oval and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas here Tuesday.
A total of 11 gold medals — six in athletics and five in swimming — are up for grabs as hostilities go full-blast in this prestigious six-day competition organized by Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Department of National Defense, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Commission on Higher Education, and the Tagaytay City government.
At stake are gold medals in the finals in the women’s 1,500-meter run, the men’s 1,500m, women’s and men’ s long jump, and women’s and men’ s 200m events at the CvSU starting 7 a.m.
Over at the De La Salle University- Dasmariñas, five gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and 200m breaststroke will be contested in swimming beginning 8:30 a.m.
Gold medals will also be at stake in the men’s and women’s form of arnis starting 10 a.m. at the CvSU-International Convention Center (ICon) and the Raiders competition at the CvSU Softball Field.
Meanwhile, the elimination rounds in men’s basketball at the Robinsons Tagaytay Basketball Court and City College of Tagaytay, women’s volleyball at the CvSU Quadrangle, and boxing at the Tagaytay Combat Sports Center got underway Monday.
Action in table tennis at the CvSU Gymnasium, sepak takraw at Sigtuna Hall, and chess at CvSU Rolle Hall also commenced.
In women’s volleyball, PATTS College of Aeronautics swept Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PHILSCA), 25-17, 25-15, 25-19, for a winning start.
PATTS Coach Paul Anthony Celis was visibly happy with the outcome of their game.
