Road rage cop faces multiple crime raps over motorist’s death
ACTING Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Colonel Melecio Buslig Jr. yesterday announced that criminal charges have already been filed against the “road rage” cop who shot dead a motorist following a verbal altercation on Commonwealth Avenue last week.
According to Buslig Jr., Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) Randy Tuzon, 48, assigned at the Batasan Police Station (PS6) surrendered to his superiors after the incident, which happened at around 6:30 p.m. on Tandang Sora Avenue in Bgy. Old Balara, QC. last March 20.
He also surrendered his service firearm he allegedly used in shooting one Ronnie Borromeo dead.
Borromeo’s companion Reynaldo Hagos, 51, is still undergoing treatment at a hospital, Buslig Jr. said.
The 48-year-old Tuzon was charged with murder, frustrated murder, and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act in relation to Omnibus Election Code (BP 881).
“Nakikiramay po ang QCPD sa mga naulilang pamilya ng nasawing biktima at hanagad namin ang paggaling ng isang biktima na ngayon ay masa ospital pa. Sisiguraduhin nating ang batas ay ipapatupad nang patas at walang kinikilingan, lalo na kung ang isang pulis ang nasasangkot sa isang krimen,” the QC top cop said.
Investigation showed that Borromeo was driving an L300 van with Hagos when they figured in a verbal tussle with the cop on board another van on Commonwealth highway.
The policeman alighted and reportedly confronted the occupants of the other vehicle.
At the height of the argument, Borromeo allegedly took a steel bar and attacked Tuzon.
It was at this juncture that the policeman drew his firearms, and shots rang out.
Borromeo sustained bullet wounds in the body while Hagos, 51, was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for gunshot injuries in the left hip and thigh.
