Rider in viral video surrenders
A MOTORCYCLE rider who was seen in a viral video being pinned down to the ground by a police officer following their heated altercation surrendered to the police on Thursday evening.
Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Roderick Mariano said Angelito Rencio, 48, voluntarily surrendered at the Makati Police Station after learning that he was charged for violation of R.A 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, Art. 177or Usurpation of Authority and Art. 151 or Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority of the Revised Penal Code.
The complaint was docketed under IS No. XV-05-INV-23H-2595 at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.
Rencio’s case stemmed from the investigation conducted by operatives of SPD and Makati City Police to an incident recorded in a viral video showing P/SSgt. Marsan Dolipas of Pasay Police Station pinning to the ground a motorcycle rider, later identified as Rencio, for cursing the police officer and showing a gun tucked in his waist following their heated argument over a traffic altercation.
Investigation showed that Dolipas was driving his car on his way to Pasay Police Sub-Station 2 where he was assigned last August 25 at 7:20 a.m. when he was cut and sideswiped by Rencio who was driving a motorcycle.
When they reached the corner of Osmena Highway and Arnaiz Avenue, Dolipas told Rencio to be careful but the latter allegedly cursed and showed a dirty finger to the police officer before raising his shirt, showing a gun tucked in his waist.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director P/BGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. upon learning the police negligence ordered the relief of Makati Police Sub-Station 3 desk officer P/SSgt. Reynald Matabang and his superior, P/Capt. Edison Mabaet, the station commander, for command responsibility pending the filing of an administrative case against them.
